2014_10: PhD Position natural sciences, specializing in biology/chemistry

We are looking for candidate with a bachelor/master degree to join the newly formed research project “Development of Novel, high-quality Marine Aquaculture in Sweden – with focus on environmental and economic sustainability”: NOMACULTURE. The project offers the opportunity to conduct PhD-studies in an open and stimulating research and learning environment.
We are seeking a self-driven person who wants to become part of a multidisciplinary research team working towards a sustainable aquaculture, and who shares our passion for science. The announced PhD project is collaboration between the department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, unit of Food Science, Chalmers and the Department of  Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Gothenburg. Parts of the project will also be carried out at the Sven Lovén Centre of Marine Sciences on the Swedish west coast. The doctoral program is a four-year employment and provides excellent training for a future career.

The goals of the project are to develop new, sustainable feeds and to optimize the farming conditions of European lobster and wolffish during larval and juvenile on-growth stages. The
PhD-student will be responsible for developing alternative feeds using blue mussels and fish/crustacean by-products with innovative technology, and for studying the farming biology, welfare and product quality of the two species fed these novel feeds.
