[dépassé] 2012_06 :PostDoc/Scientist in Fisheries Science

Deadline : 1er juin 2012

The Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries(IGB, www.igb-berlin.de) is the principal German research centre for aquatic ecology and inland fish and fisheries research. IGB is funded by the Federal Government and the State of Berlin and is organized in the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (www.fv-berlin.de) and the Leibniz-Association (www.wgl.de). IGB offers excellent laboratory and field facilities for interdisciplinary research and has close ties to all three Berlin universities. Work by IGB combines basic and applied research as a basis for sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems and inland fisheries, including aquaculture and recreational fisheries.

The Young Investigator Group Besatzfisch (Stocked Fish Project)(www.besatz-fisch.de <http://www.besatz-fisch.de/>, see also www.adaptfish.igb-berlin.de <http://www.adaptfish.igb-berlin.de/>) in the Department of Biology and Ecology of Fishes at IGB in conjunction with the Inland Fisheries Management Laboratory at Humboldt-University of Berlin (Germany) invite applications for a 1.5 year scientist position (starting date June, 1, 2012) as PostDoc/Scientist in Fisheries Science

The topic can be freely chosen by the candidate from one of the following subjects.**

    * Simulation Modelling: Studying spatial fish-angler-interactions using a management strategy evaluation framework that accounts for  uncertainties and trade-offs in the context of stocking.
    * Economics: Design, execution and analysis of a discrete choice  experiment with anglers to study willingness-to-pay and preferences for fish stocking-related attributes using a survey.
    * Quantitative literature reviews: Applying meta-analytical tools to recreational fisheries.
    * Stock assessment: Using mark-recapture models to study  population dynamics of exploited freshwater fish stocks in small angling club stillwaters.
    * Fish stocking research: anything else that might be of interest to our group in the context of the Besatzfisch project in German recreational fisheries (see www.besatz-fisch.de.
    * Behavioural ecology: movement ecology using high resolution 3-Dfish telemetry data collected over multiple years in a natural lake.
    * Experimental evolution: studying phenotypic changes to size-selectively exploited zebrafish in the lab.

Requirements:

    * Doctoral degree in the field of interest, preferably with a focus on fisheries
    * Strong quantitative skills in statistics and/or modelling
    * Academic record in terms of publications
    * Ability and motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team and to supervise students
    * Very good working knowledge of English
    * Familiarity with recreational fishing and German language are benefits

**Salary is paid according to the TVöD and includes health insurance (gross salary up to 50.000 EUR depending on age and qualifications).
